Skiing in Queenstown – the Ultimate Winter Holiday Destination

Winter is here, Queenstown has received a big dumping of snow, it is time to think about your family snow holiday. Whether you're a family, a group of friends or a couple looking for the ideal snow holiday, Queenstown features magnificent mountains to enjoy, a myriad of exciting activities. Land in the heart of the Southern Alps, Queenstown's International Airport on one of many daily direct flights from Australia and New Zealand's main ports. You can leave the airport, check in to your Suite accommodation and be on-mountain in just over an hour if you want!

Queenstown is an amazing destination in the heart of the Southern Alps, with magnificent mountains for skiers and snowboarders of all levels. There are four ski areas to choose from, the closest just 20 minutes’ drive from the town centre.

• Coronet Peak - SATURDAY 16TH JUNE, just 20 minutes’ drive from the town centre

• Cardrona - SATURDAY 16th June, Swiss-Belsuites Pounamu is just over hour drive, 57km via the Crown range.

• Treble Cone - Thursday 28 June, 1 h 33 min (90.5 km) via Crown Range Rd and Cardrona Valley Rd

Cardrona Alpine Resort


Cardrona is New Zealand's fun and family friendly ski resort with the most reliable snow conditions in the region. Its high elevation and southerly aspect mean dry natural snow is plentiful, which is further enhanced by snow making facilities. Cardrona is the perfect place for beginners and intermediates, with NZ's only combined gondola chairlift, easy-to-use surface lifts. Cardrona is home to the NZ Park & Pipe Team & offers the most extensive terrain park facilities in the Southern Hemisphere with four terrain parks, two half pipes and a gravity-cross course. Boasting six distinctly different cafes, fully licensed kid's centres, on-mountain accommodation, retail; ski, snowboard and telemark lessons; and a fully equipped rental department, Cardrona is pure gold.

NZSKI – The Remarkables


The famous Remarkables mountain range is about fun, families and freestyle, all an easy 35 minute drive from downtown Queenstown. The Remarkables is known for its friendly atmosphere, high altitude and north-facing sunny slopes. There’s something for everyone – plenty of space for beginners, dedicated freestyle areas for Intermediate skiers and boarders, and some of the best alpine views in the world. The area has just completed a multi-million dollar development with a new, purpose-built base lodge, high speed 6-seater chairlift and mostly sealed access road (10km of 13km is sealed).

NZSKI – Coronet Peak


Just a 23, 17km minute drive from Pounamu Apartments, Coronet Peak is the closest mountain to Queenstown. Stunning high points and rolling trails offer seasoned skiers and riders something to really get your teeth into. For those new to the snow, dedicated learner and novice areas make finding your snow feet easy. Night Skiing and First Tracks mean Coronet Peak offers longer on-snow hours than any other ski area in the country.

Treble Cone Ski Area

Treble Cone offers a real New Zealand snow experience. Covering 550 hectares, Treble Cone is the largest ski area in the South Island. With the longest vertical rise in the Southern Lakes (705m), longest groomed intermediate runs (4km) and spectacular views over Lake Wanaka and Mount Aspiring, Treble Cone can claim some of the most exhilarating skiing and snowboarding conditions in the country.  

Spread over three large basins the mountain has trails to suit all ages and skill levels. From the purpose built learner area, long groomed beginner and intermediate trails, challenging advanced runs and ungroomed powder, and infamous natural pipes and chutes, Treble Cone has it all.  Treble Cone offers more intermediate and advanced terrain than any other South island ski area with off-piste powder skiing and boarding unrivalled. Treble Cone continues to offer the greatest freeriding terrain in the region for snowboarders. There are natural half pipes on the upper mountain and a terrain park is built each year.
The season runs from late June to late September. Daily transport is available from Queenstown (during season).
