If you have a few days in Auckland, we can’t recommend Rangitoto Island enough. The youngest island in the Hauraki Gulf and the last and largest volcano to be formed in Auckland. Explore the lava fields, where heat can still be felt, incredible views, lava caves, and beautiful beaches. What more could you ask for?
Day trips to the island take the Fullers 360 ferry for $39 adult (return) from the Ferry terminal and be ready for a great day.
Tip: Be sure to pack a water and snacks and wear good closed toe shoes.
Last ferry back is at 4.30pm on weekdays and 5pm during the weekend and public holidays. Whatever you do, don’t miss the last ferry off the island or expect to pay a very expensive water taxi to come and get you.
