Well known since ancient times and regarded as a key cross-border trading post, Lao Cai City is today a growing tourist destination. Lao Cai City is the capital of Lao Cai Province lo-cated in the north-western part of Vietnam close to the border with Yunnan Province of southwest China. The terrain of Lao Cai Province is mountainous and many parts are still quite heavily forested. There are many natural caves and historical sites throughout the region, which is known for its agricultural specialties such as Bac Ha plums. The region has a well-developed transportation network, and trains run from Lao Cai City to Hanoi - with the option of an overnight sleeper. There are also bus services from Lao Cai City to Hanoi, and also to Yunming and other cities in Yunnan-China. |
