Discovering Beautiful Jimbaran
Jimbaran is one of the most untouched locations in all of Bali. Situated just south of Ngurah Rai International Airport in the southern peninsula of Bali, Jimbaran was once a former farming hamlet. The village has undergone careful development over the last few decades, and today, while fishing boats are still plentiful, Jimbaran has been transformed into a luxurious and stunning destination for visitors from all over the world. In this article, we take a closer look at this beach town, and look at some of the most popular activities for travellers to Jimbaran.
Jimbaran Bay is situated between Kuta and the Bukit Peninsula. Luxurious Jimbaran hotels line the tranquil local beach, which stretches for over three kilometres. Jimbaran beach is a strip of pristine white sand dotted with numerous restaurants and cafes, most serving some of the freshest seafood to be found on the island.
What to Do in Jimbaran
Jimbaran is a seafood lover’s paradise. The village has two major dining locales. The first is on the Kedonganan-Jimbaran Bay area, which is adjacent to the Jimbaran fish market. The second is on Muaya Beach on Four Seasons Road, which is one kilometre south of the central beach area. Each locale has around forty or more restaurants serving very fresh seafood sourced straight from the Jimbaran fish market.
Swimming and Water Activities
Jimbaran Bay is very safe for swimming and surfing. The beach itself is very clean and its relatively calm waters make it suitable for swimmers of all ages. For surfing, try chartering a boat off from Jimbaran Bay toward the direction of the airport for some great surf breaks.
The luxury hotels along Jimbaran beach offer a range of luxury spa experiences. There are also stand alone high-end spas offering massage, hot stone therapy, beauty treatments, and traditional Balinese-style treatments.
There are a range of antique shops and boutiques along the Jalan Uluwatu stretch. Jimbaran market is great for fresh produce and is open every morning. For local art, try the Jenggala Gallery.
It’s relatively easy to get around Jimbaran Bay and beach area on foot. However, as in the rest of Bali, visitor can rent motorbikes and taxis for longer trips.
Getting Further Out
Other than its unbeatable tranquil setting and restaurants, Jimbaran has the distinct advantage of being located close to Central Bali, Kuta, Seminyak, and the airport, which is only 10 to 15 minutes away. Like Vietnam hotels and hotel elsewhere, most Jimbaran hotels will have a direct airport pick-up service.
- Central Bali. The cultural highlights in Ubud, Tabanan, and Bedugul are only between 45 minutes to 2.5 hours away from Jimbaran.
- Kuta. Just a short drive away is Kuta, with its stunning beach, shopping malls, and bars. Kuta is one of the most sophisticated and luxurious destinations in Bali.
- Seminyak. Just a 20 minutes drive away from Jimbaran, Seminyak is a popular destination with many spas and upmarket boutique shopping outlets.
- Segara and Sanur. Sanur is 30 minutes away via the JI. Ngurah Rai bypass, and one of the most mature and well-known beach towns.
